Reading Response: Week 6-2

I am writing my response on Albert Goldbarth’s poem ‘how easy it is.’ This poem caught my attention because it explained something daunting in a mundane tone. The language was very simple (I think that’s another reason I liked it) and it kept me interested till the end. What I got from the poem was how easy it is ruin something and not be aware of it. Like in the poem the detective is so preoccupied with his case and how everyone realize how easily a family can be destroyed that he doesn’t realize how easily he could ruin his family life. I felt it was something different to use a murder to explain how easy it is to ruin something. I especially love the last few lines, ‘How did it/ go, his wife asks; GODDAMMIT, he says,/ in front of the son,/ in the loudest voice he’s used in their own/ six years together. She brings her hands up/to the sides of her face, as if he’s actually hurt her there.’ I felt the ending emphasizes the topic ‘how easy it is,’ and it ties in the whole poem together to portray his idea really well.
