I just realized that I never introduced myself in this blog, so let me tell you’ll a little bit about me. I was born in Sri Lanka and basically lived there the majority of my life, and then I came to the US for university. I love my country and I feel like I appreciate the comforts of home so much more now that I’m here. I am the youngest of three in my family, and I think growing up I was quite spoiled. The hardest part about being away from home is missing all the people I love and adore. I love science, reading, cooking and travelling. It’s hard to explain how I actually ended up in Carrollton; I think it’s a mixture of chance and opportunity, if that makes any sense. I must say I hated it here at first, but Carrollton has a tendency to grow on you, and I think I have grown to not hate it so much now J
I am majoring in Biology here, and I will be graduating in approximately eighty days, which is scary and exciting at the same time. It’s like going to a new restaurant and trying to order something, there are so many options but you always wonder if you picked the best option. I love science and I’m thinking of pursuing a career in research. As much as creative writing and scientific research seem like very different disciplines, I actually think they compliment each other in a way. They are both about creating something unique, challenging boundaries of thought and going somewhere no one else has. They are both about thinking out of the box and I think some of the strategies I am learning in this class will be helpful for my future career as a researcher.
