Random Impulse: Week 5-2

Recently I learnt about yawning in one of my classes, so I thought I’ll share what I learnt in this random impulse. While it is assumed that we yawn when we are bored, tired or sleepy, this is not completely true. There is a theory which has been proven that says yawning is a mechanism for temperature regulation of the brain. Our brains work best when cool, so to prevent the overheating of the brain, we yawn. Yawning actually increases our alertness. That’s why we also yawn when we are going to sleep or wake up, because our brain needs to cool and recover. So next time someone gets offended that you are yawning, you should tell them that it’s not an offence, you’re actually increasing your attention span.
