Junkyard Quotes: Week 5

1.   “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”
-Romans 12:2
I read this quote recently and I thought it could be applied to the process of writing poetry. Poetry is about challenging language and moving away from everyday language. While I know this, it has been hard for me to challenge language and use it in ways that are different to what I am used. I just thought that it was interesting and it sort if made sense as to why sometimes it can be easier to conform than to stand out.
2.   "We are born ignorant but one must work hard to remain stupid”
-Benjamin Franklin
I was out of junkyard quotes this week so I resorted to facebook to find some and this was a quote someone had used as a status update, and I found it quite amusing. You wouldn’t usually say that you work hard to be stupid, but this quote made me realize that you do in fact have to work hard to ignore/not absorb all the knowledge that is thrown at you all the time.
3.   “Hope is the shining light in the distance with invisible glass walls all the way”
This is another junkyard quote I got from someone’s facebook status update. I just found it a colorful use of language.
4.   “Justin Beiber in Sri Lanka! Not for a concert but a math class!”
One of my friends back home said this when she was telling me about this billboard that was advertising a math class with Justin Beiber’s picture. I thought it was hilarious (but not really surprised) that they would use him to advertise something totally unrelated.
5.   “I’m going to sue the raisin company; the ingredients in the packet of raisins did not have grapes in it, what if I was allergic to grapes?”
This is more like a really silly line one of my friends said. A couple of us spent so much time trying to convince her she could not sue the ‘raisin company,’ but she is definitely convinced she can.
