I enjoyed reading the chapter on voice and I found it interesting to learn that poets do not necessarily talk about their own lives or beliefs in their poetry. It was also interesting that it was not necessary to have a clear thesis (or central idea) as such when writing but to just challenge language and let language lead to the unexpected. I liked the unique approach taken in the poem ‘Cinderelly, Cinderelly’ as the poet describes a well known fairytale in the voice of the unexpected mice. It was out of the ordinary and most importantly it gave the well known story a twist. I tried to apply some of the suggestions given in this chapter when writing the random impulses this week, and thus I chose to take on a different voice and I let language lead me to a meaning. I found this very helpful for my writing.
