Classmate Response: Week 6 – Lucas’s ‘The Hips Poem’

I thought Lucas’s poem was very interesting and funny, and I think he does a very good job of playing with language. I especially liked the lines, ‘muffin top turns to mushroom cloud/and folds over and swallows the belt/ like a glutton gulps spaghetti.’ I think this is a great simile and it is something unusual as well. He uses a lot of interesting language like this and makes the poem fun to read. I think he has some really good line breaks as well; he always ends in a way that makes you want to read more and his sentences can definitely stand on their own. If I am to give a suggestion, I think it would be great if he can try to combine this poem about hips with something mundane in life. I think that would give a very interesting twist to a poem. But I do think it is already great on its own!
