Junkyard Quotes: Week 6

1. “Put a sock in it, or build a bridge and get over it.”
One of my friends has been complaining a lot about her life, and this is what another one of my friends said to her. I liked the way she said it; it was simple but it put the point across. I think it is a line that could be played around with and then used in a poem.
2. “Yes, there is a baby growing like a weed in my uterus.” “No, not a weed, it’s a mighty oak”
These are lines from Grey’s Anatomy, and they caught my attention when I was watching it on TV. I found this to not be the usual use of language and thought that this too could be something that could be played with to incorporate in a poem or prose.
3. “Reading the papers made me want to jump off a bridge.”
This is what one of my professors said recently when a classmate asked how grading the recent papers we turned in was going. It was just really funny (and scary) that she said that, especially since this class is a 4000 level class.
4. “The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.” -Chris McCandless
I read this quote recently and I really liked it, especially the part about having a new and different sun. I just found it made so much sense and it seemed a nice way to word it.
5. “Religion is made by man, but I was made by God.”
As lame as it sounds, I resorted to facebook to find yet another junkyard quote. This quote caught my attention because I’ve been trying to understand the purpose of religion recently. I am a catholic but I respect all religions. I feel like people use religion as a way to segregate, and I don’t think that’s the purpose of religion at all, so when I saw this quote I felt it made a lot of sense. People interpret the teachings of God and religion is now becoming something man has made.
