Random Impulse: Week 12-1

This is a revision of an earlier poem I had written. I incorporated some of the suggestions Professor Ellison had given. I'm still working on it though, cause I don't think I like the flow of the poem very much. Here's what I've got so far:

A teardrop in the sea,
a land rich with nature’s pride.
Zoom through the layer of cotton wool clouds
toward gently arcing golden-sand beaches.
Trickling water from the mountains joins hands to form Mahewelli,
the river that waltzes from central to north-east.
Sinharaja, the pride of the lion, the wonder of the world.
Forget the man-made wonders,
white temples and giant reservoirs,
Instead, spy on King Kasyapa’s palace in the sky,
admire heavenly maidens cresting on the rocks.

Zoom closer,
you’ll see Saman sucking the flesh of sweet juicy mangoes,
succulent mangoosteens, or blood red jambu
sitting under a banyan tree, basking the sun,
the cool breeze twinkling between his toes.
You’ll see the sun, drawing its tentacles of light
the brightest orange, red and pink.
Chirping birds litter the sky, rustling tranquility,
scurrying to nests before the conquering darkness.
Spice filled aromatic air, cinematic
with coriander, cumin, saffron, and chili.
Welcomes with the brightest smile
an array of curries: seafood, vegetables, and meat,
that will make your face blush.

Zoom even closer,
you’ll see the twinge behind the smiles,
hear the tales of the darkest history
learn of the hushed battles for freedom, honor, and dignity.
