Flannery O’Connor’s “A good man is hard to find” was very amusing to read. I enjoyed reading it but when I re-read I felt the plot was a bit too dramatic. For example I thought it was very ironic that the grandmother read the news article about the misfit and then met the misfit during their trip. I enjoyed the character of the grandmother and how she was generally relatable to many people. I also really liked that the author was able to make me have mixed emotions about the grandmother. While I found the grandmother annoying and self absorbed at most times, I also felt sorry at the way her son was treating her. I started to develop an annoyance at the son and his family for the way they were treating her and at times felt this whole incident of the misfit could have been avoided if they had given her more attention. I loved how the details of the misfit killing each family member and especially the killing of the grandmother were buried in paragraphs. I liked not having to read the gruesome details and I think this also makes the story appealing to different audiences.
