Junkyard Quotes: Week 7

1.      “Life is a shipwreck but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats.” –Voltaire
One of my friends quoted this, and it’s one of those lines that really stuck in me. It made me remember that as crappy as life will be, I have to enjoy the ride. I think it can in a way be applied to creative writing as well. Even though creative writing requires a lot of hard work and time, you have to enjoy it while you’re writing. If not it’ll just be another mundane task.

2.      “Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from the inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves.” -The 5 People You Meet in Heaven
I got this quote from a book I read recently and I thought it explained the concept of holding on to anger and revenge perfectly. I know there are so many times I’ve thought that being angry with someone serves them right, but I’ve realized that at the end I’m the one that is suffering. It just takes up space in my head and does no good to me. So sometimes the best thing to do is forgive those who do us wrong. As hard as that might seem, it’s harder to hold on to the anger.
3.      “Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it." –Albert Einstein
This quote just makes me laugh because I am considering a career in science. Even though it makes me laugh, I know it is true. I know I won’t be earning much doing research and if I am to earn a lot it’ll take a long time. Especially my brother keeps reminding me this and always tells me he is worried about my career choice. I tell myself that sometimes money isn’t everything, and if I’m enjoying what I’m doing and earn enough to get by, I’ll be happy. I guess I’ll find out soon! J
4.      “The best way to get over a woman is to turn her into literature.” -500 days of Summer
This is a quote from the movie and again it’s one of those lines that caught my attention. I never realized that writing is a great outlet till a year or two back. Now when I get annoyed at one of my friends, instead of just screaming and getting emotional I’ll write an e-mail. This helps me calm down and most of the time I don’t even end up sending the e-mail.

5.      Why can't life be like math? There's only one correct answer in math, darn it.” –Unknown
I wrote this line in my list of junkyard quotes when I either heard or read it, but I had forgotten to note where it is from.  I like this quote because I can’t help but always wish there was only one correct answer in life. I know that life will be really boring if there was only one right answer, but I can’t help but wish, because I know how excited I get when I get the right answer for a math problem.
