2. “Hope is wanting something so eagerly that-in spite of all the evidence that you're not going to get it-you go right on wanting it. And the remarkable thing about it is that this very act of hoping produces a kind of strength of its own.” -Norman Vincent Peale
I found this quote explained ‘hope’ really well. I think hope is the first step to getting you where you want to be. Even though it might seem pointless or something that holds you in the past at times, without hope I don’t think you’ll have the desire/passion to achieve a goal. Like this quote says I think it gives you the strength to keep moving through the storm.
3. “Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.”
- Ernest Hemingway
- Ernest Hemingway
I’ve been hearing a lot of debate about war lately and I think Heminway’s quote explains my stance on war really well.
4. “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”
This is another quote that I really like and with which I agree. It’s easy to be nice to your friends or those that do you a favor. I want to be a person that treats everyone well, but it is really hard. Sometimes I can’t help but say I just don’t have the time. This quote reminds me that I have to make a more conscious effort.
5. “When I first began writing I felt that writing should go on I still do feel that it should go on but when I first began writing I was completely possessed by the necessity that writing should go on and if writing should go on what had commas and semi-colons to do with it what had commas to do with it what had periods to do with it what had small letters and capitals to do with writing going on which was at the time the most profound need I had in connection with writing.” -Gertrude SteinSo I was a bit bored and I googled best sentences and this is one that came up and I though it went really well with the exercise we did on writing a paragraph without punctuation. I found his long sentence quite amusing because even when I was doing the exercise I couldn’t help but put a capital letter where I thought a new sentence was supposed to start. I do have to admit though that I had a better flow of ideas when I was writing without punctuation, which I thought was sort of cool.
